Unsettled
Cold North, Mild South

Issued: 0530hrs Friday 2nd March 2018
Duty forecaster: Matthew Hugo

Very cold, if not bitterly cold late winter weather persists across northern Europe, milder further south but all areas very unsettled.

Friday
Through into Friday and it is low pressure that will dominate across much of the Europe with the exception of Scandinavia where high pressure will maintain bitterly cold weather across Norway, Sweden and Finland with snow flurries. Widespread unsettled conditions are expected across Spain and Portugal with rain and showers, while snow is likely across France and up into the British Isles through the day. Equally some heavy snow may develop across more eastern areas of Europe, including Poland and surrounding countries. Low pressure dominates through the Med as well bringing rain and showers, perhaps local storms and perhaps very windy across Italy through the day. Milder through the Med though, especially across Greece and surrounding countries where it may be quite warm.

Saturday
Into Saturday and low pressure continues to dominate across much of Europe, bringing rain and showers across Spain and Portugal and also up into France as well but with some sleet and snow possible here. Low pressure continues to dominate through the Med bringing further rain and showers to Italy and surrounding countries, but perhaps somewhat drier across Greece and rather mild here as well. Cold, if not very cold weather persists across more northern areas of Europe through Germany, Poland and up into Scandinavia with further flurries.
